Distington Hall Crematorium is set in very pleasant surroundings in the north of the borough and serves the majority of Copeland and most of the south of Allerdale. Within the grounds and close to the main crematorium building, where committal services are conducted, there is a Chapel of Remembrance. The Chapel of Remembrance is open daily between 9am and 4.30pm.
Bereaved families can leave a lasting record and dignified memorial to their departed loved ones by having an entry inscribed in the Book of Remembrance, which is displayed in the chapel. Vases are also provided in the chapel to enable floral tributes to be left.
The Book of Remembrance or a copy of the appropriate page is available so that the inscription may be seen on every anniversary of the date of death. The actual Book of Remembrance is not available to view at weekends or bank holidays. However there is an alternative, electronic version of the book that can be viewed during this time.
The opening times for the Chapel of Remembrance and a location map for the crematorium can be found here. The staff will gladly assist anyone who wishes to view an inscription on a date other than the anniversary.
