Aberdeen Crematorium is about 4 miles west of the city centre and situated off the B9119, Skene Road on the outskirts of the city. There are two chapels, East and West with a seating capacity for approximately 90 and 270 persons respectively.
For those who don't have their own transport it can be reached by taking a First Aberdeen Bus to the Woodend Terminus opposite the gate to Woodend Hospital. From there, the Council operates a free courtesy minibus service to the Crematorium. This yellow minibus sits immediately beside the terminus approximately 10 minutes before the start of each service and returns after the service.

Memorial Chapel and Garden
Both the Chapel and Garden are situated just after the entrance/ exit junction within the crematorium grounds. Granite memorial plaques are displayed within the Chapel, on the external walls of the Garden and on memorial planters.
The Garden is open between 9.00am and 4.00pm daily. Visitors will find wooden memorial seats spread throughout these peaceful gardens.

Garden of Remembrance
Bereaved families and visitors will find the extensive Garden of Remembrance tranquil and pleasant. They are open from 9.00am to 4.00pm daily.
The cremated remains may be:

  • strewn by the Crematorium Superintendent in the Garden of Remembrance at Aberdeen Crematorium, Hazlehead, with the family in attendance
  • strewn by the family in the Garden of Remembrance at Aberdeen Crematorium, Hazlehead, following consultation with the Crematorium Superintendent
  • strewn elsewhere after being taken away by the family (remember to consult the owner of the land)
  • strewn in the Garden of Remembrance adjoining the Hall of Remembrance, Kaimhill Road
  • Interred in a grave at a cemetery

The public are requested not to leave tribute vases or memorials at the Garden of Remembrance, but instead place cut flowers in the large stone vases supplied by the Council. These items, if left in the garden will be removed from time to time in order to assist in the maintenance of the grounds.

Floral tributes
During a funeral service family floral tributes will be displayed, as far as possible, on top of the coffin. If there are a large number of tributes many may have to be left in the floral display areas which are situated at the rear of the chapels. These floral tributes can be placed where the cremated remains have been strewn. However, they will be removed once they deteriorate and become withered.

Memorials
There are various types of memorial available these include:

  • The Book of Remembrance
  • The Babies Book of Remembrance
  • Memorial Seats
  • Granite Wall Plaques
  • Granite Planter Plaques
  • Memorial Cards

Details of these and further memorial facilities can be obtained from the Assistant Registrar.

Book of Remembrance
The Book of Remembrance is displayed in the viewing room adjacent to the Crematorium Superintendent's Office and can be accessed via the central waiting area. The Book has a separate page for each day of the year and the pages are turned on a daily basis so that entries are always visible on the anniversary of the date of death. Temporary entries are made for each new inscription until the Books are sent away each quarter to be updated. Assistance can be given by the Crematorium staff if it is wished to view any other pages of the Book. The Book of Remembrance can be seen between the hours of 11.00am and 4.00pm daily.
