Crematoria
The Cemetery and Crematorium was officially opened on the 22nd October 1934 by Alderman John Moore under the Auspices of the Lord Mayor of Newcastle upon Tyne, Councillor John Leadbitter, J.P.
The Crematorium has 2 chapels, joined together by an arcaded cloister, known as the Loggia. The original Garden of remembrance is immediately behind the cloisters and is approached through the archway of the Central clock tower. The West chapel (on the left-hand side, if you are facing the Chapels) seats approximately 180 mourners and is equipped with an organ, CD and cassette tape player. An induction loop system is also installed. The Chapel is fully accessible for wheelchairs.
The East Chapel (on the right hand side) seats approximately 165 mourners and is equipped with a CD and cassette tape player. It also has an induction loop system and is wheelchair accessible.
Both Chapels are traditional in style and have been recently re-furbished to the highest standard.
