Inverness Crematorium is located on the right, 3mls from Inverness City Centre, via Glenurquhart Road, Tomnahurich Canal Bridge and onto the A82 Inverness to Drumnadrochit/Fort William Road.
The Crematorium opened in July 1995 and is managed by Highland Council in a tranquil and rural yet convenient location on the western outskirts of Inverness.
Both the large and small Chapels, offer serenity and privacy during services, afforded by the the glazed areas overlooking courts from which the public are excluded.
A Book of Remembrance provides a lasting record and memorial and is housed in a separate Tower Chapel. The Tower Chapel is approached through the Wreath Court and offers opportunity for quiet meditation. The Book is in four volumes, one for each quarter of the year, is handmade throughout and bound with leather. Lettering of the memorial inscriptions are executed by craftspersons. Every day of the year has a separate page and the book is opened daily at the appropriate page to display the entries on each anniversary.
Memorials
These include the Book of Remembrance, roses, shrubs and trees are in areas, ready for adoption, a bronze plaque is then placed in front with chosen inscription. The fee for this includes maintenance by the Council. For those who, on anniversaries and other special occasions, feel they would like to make an individual tribute, donations can be made to the Floral Donation Fund which allows the purchase of shrubs and bulbs to naturalise the gardens and pond area.
Music
If desired, for services, can be provided by means of a concealed CD or tape machine and/or by the organ in the main Chapel.
Garden of Remembrance
Cremated remains may be returned to the earth in one of the areas designated for this purpose in the Gardens. Alternatively, the applicant for cremation can remove the remains from the Crematorium for disposal elsewhere. If a decision, on the disposal of the remains, cannot be made at the time of Cremation a period will be allowed for this.
