The Crematorium grounds are open every day between the following hours:
Weekdays, 8:00am - 4:30pm
Saturday, 9:00am - 4:30pm
Sundays and Bank Holidays, 10:30am - 4:30pm
The Office is open from 08:30am - 16:30pm Monday to Friday.
The grounds are open longer during the summer and closing times are displayed at the main gates.
Car parking is available to the front and side of the crematorium grounds. Facilities include a chapel with seating for 80 people comfortably and room for approx 30 standing. Should it be necessary additional mourners can be accommodated in the foyer. Music can be played on an organ situated in the chapel or alternatively CD and tape facilities are available. Cremation can take place Monday to Friday between 9.00am and 3.30pm on the half hour.
Disabled visitors may park either in the marked bays by the chapel or by the office. There is a ramped access to the Chapel, Book of Remembrance Room and Office. Toilet facilities can be found by the main gates and additional facilities are available in the chapel where the disabled toilets are located.
After the Cremation service, where no immediate arrangements have been made for the final resting-place of the cremated remains, they will be retained by the Crematorium, pending a decision, for a period of up to 28 days. Unless we are notified of a specific location prior to this time, the cremated remains will be laid to rest in a recorded area of the Gardens of Remembrance.
Following a cremation service, tributes may be left in the floral display area. A name card is provided for each service. The tributes remain for a period of three days and are removed in a set order. If the name card or tributes are moved from their original position, we may remove the flowers at an earlier time.
No flowers are permitted on the lawns in the Garden of Remembrance. Tributes can be placed within the designated areas at the chapel in the vases provided. These vases must not be removed from the chapel area.
Plastic fencing or other surroundings, stone chippings, unauthorised memorials, containers or vases are not permitted in any areas of the Gardens of Remembrance or grounds and will be removed.
Book of Remembrance
The Books of Remembrance are located in a separate building to the left of the main drive and are on view daily, providing a lasting, simple, dignified memorial. The book is open every day at the appropriate page allowing inscriptions to be seen on each anniversary. An easy to use computerised book allows for inscriptions to be seen at all other times.
Inscriptions can be up to eight lines and should not exceed 38 characters and spaces per line. Entries over five lines may incorporate an emblem (for an additional cost) of a regimental badge, flower or personal tribute. Entries can be inscribed under the date of death or any other day or anniversary of the families choosing.
Miniature Books and Memorial cards are also available and provide a personal copy of the entries in the book of remembrance. The card covers one inscription whilst the book has room for further inscriptions.
